Sounds of the Asbury Apartment's Boiler/Radiator

Each unit has a radiator and is heated from a Master Boiler. Get a loud of what it sounds like. This will definitely wake you up in the middle of the night...or keep you up all night long...(that is, if the bedbugs haven't already done so).

These sounds were taken from about 15 feet away.

Emergency Bedbug Meeting

Here is the notice that we received regarding an Emergency Bedbug Meeting that was held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday December 12.

You might have to zoom-in to read.

Here are some bedbugs that were found in my unit. (I am freaked out about this...the new Community Director will not step foot into any of the units...that's how bad it is here.)

Zoom in to get a good look.....

John Stewart Co. Means Business Regarding the Parking Garage!

Hmmmm....I should take a peek at the garage to see what this is all about. I don't park in the basement garage...very tight space to get in and out of.

Vacancies!

I forgot to mention in my last post that there have been more move-outs than move-ins, so come join us in the battle with the bedbugs and roaches! At least 15 studio-size units are available.....Welcome home.

Quick Updates.......

  • FPI, Inc. is no longer the management company for The Asbury Apartments. The John Stewart Company is now officially new management.
  • FPI, Inc.'s management team failed to properly maintain resident's files, since the John Stewart Company's management is now scrambling to update files.
  • I gave a list of my unit's issues and informed that I (gasp) found 3 bedbugs in my unit the week of November 11. Since then, I have found one or two nearly everday. I was told by new management team that the entire building would be treated for bedbugs....(haven't we heard that before?).
  • The dogs that own the courtyard are not happy that they have to walk a few extra feet through the side door to get to their final destination (to avoid the dust and dirt in the common lobby area). So just be aware of where you step...not only will you encounter the urine puddles in the elevator, but in the main hallway, as well. Why don't the owner's pick up after their pet?
  • I had the pleasure of assisting former Community Director with selecting seven (7) new flowering trees for the front and courtyard. Let's hope they are watered to avoid death. They were beautifully planted by our resident super and staff along with new mulch in the front. What a difference!
  • I really hope and pray that The John Stewart Company lives up the their website:

"Comprehensive housing management is the foundation of The John Stewart Company's diversified housing services. Our goal is to provide secure, service oriented, well-maintained and professionally managed housing that serves the interests of residents and owners alike. Reaching beyond the traditional management services of maintenance and budgeting, we strive to create community environments that foster high levels of physical, social, and emotional well-being among residents. At the same time, we also provide owners and sponsors with financial efficiency, accountability and value-added benefits."

I will post some pictures of the bedbugs that I found in my unit...I am battling them everyday,

The First of Many Notices Regarding Building Heater System

I wasn't too concerned about the heating system...it bangs so much when starting up that I much prefer not to use the radiator in the unit. By keeping all the windows closed, the unit stays pretty warm without added heat.

Cleaning the Lobby Sofa

I've been putting my Hoover Steam Vac to good use the last couple of days. The Lobby Sofa needed a thorough, deep cleaning. I started yesterday and it needed an additional day of scrubbing. A good workout and good physical therapy, so I'm not complaining. Check out the before and after photos in the "PHOTOS" section. Finally a soft spot to sit that won't feel like you're in the depths of grunge. OH...and I treated for bedbugs...so we won't get bit by those little buggers that seem to be crawling all over the place!

OFFICIAL - BEDBUG INFESTATION

On Monday, September 9th, all residents received notice that all units were to be inspected by canines for bedbugs.

I was home when the inspection took place, and although I have had not seen any in my unit, nor have had any bites, I was told that there were two that were found in my pull-out bed sofa. The units across the hall and next door to me also inspected positive for bedbugs.

In my lifetime, I have never had to deal with bedbugs. The super told me that an action plan to eradicate them will be taken...when that will happen, I don't know.

In the meantime, I will be taking my own action plan and dust my sofa (where they hide) with diatomaceous earth. And hope for the best.

When I move, I'm guessing I won't be taking my sofa with me.

Haunted?

I heard some stories already that there is some paranormal activity occurring in the building on certain floors. Kind of spooky, especially at night. An apparition of a lady who just stares at you have been reported.

Well, nothing on my floor happening...thankfully. Most of the noise and ruckus comes from the street and MacArthur Park. The ghosts can't see to make noise louder than living beings who walk this earth.

Bedbug Meeting

A bedbug meeting was held at 7:00 p.m. in the lobby area on Thursday August 15th. Pizza and soft drinks were served and FPI Management took names of attendees. I believe about a dozen residents attended and few stragglers later through the meeting.

Mother Earth Dust (diatomaceous earth) was applied in all the hallways (most are carpeted).

In order to eradicate bedbug problem in the building, it will require full cooperation from tenants. Tenants will need to report all incidents of any sightings, infestation, etc. ISOTech Pest Control is contracted to provide treatments.

Pest control for the building is extremely costly, per management, however is determined to initiate a plan that, ultimately, will relieve the building of insect problem, particularly bed bugs.

We were informed that ALL units will be inspected for bedbugs. So plan on getting a notice for day and time.

Residents who do not feel comfortable not being present when ISOTech is inspecting, should plan on staying home that day.

It would have been nice to meet most if not all of the residents under better circumstances.

Staff Changes......Again!

A notice dated July 18th was distributed to the building's residents informing us of some "exciting changes happening in our building". And FPI wanted to reiterate their commitment to providing us residents with a quality and positive housing experience and encourage us to let them know how they can better serve us.

Staff changes occurred and as of today's date we have interim management.

For the record, during my residency here, there have been 4 (four) staff changes (Community Director "CD"). I realize most residents call CDs "manager" or "management", however they are but part of a team. The Asbury Apartments are "professionally managed by FPI Management".

Changes also occurred to the After Hours Maintenance Procedure. There is a new phone number that goes directly to the on-call Maintenance Team. Be sure to save that number on your cell, or keep it handy by your landline phone. Check in the office for the new number if you haven't already.

As a reminder, all life threatening emergencies that require medical, police or fire assistance should be handled by 9-1-1.

A new front door entry system has been installed and it works great! No more hassling to get the key out and trying to manipulate the key, which was always a problem. Stop by the office to receive your card, if you haven't already. There is a $50.00 replacement fee if lost or stolen! You will still need the master key to open common area's doors, such as basement, courtyard, etc.

I do look forward to submitting some of my ideas to management and hopefully they will be seriously considered to make the property an enjoyable place to live.

Bedbug Infestation Problem?

Well, I'm guessing there is a serious bedbug problem in the building since I have seen the "ISOTECH" truck here at least twice, and have heard residents complain and talk about the problem. I'm grateful I do NOT have any bedbugs in my unit! Now...roaches are another thing....I'll be posting on that issue later.

Cooling down............

So very glad it's cooled down....and the breeze certainly helps when the evening sun beats down on the unit. Just wondering if this blog can be found by anyone who types in Asbury Apartments...if you're reading this by a search default...please shoot me a message. Thanks.

Newbie to this....

I'm a newbie to "blogging" and wanting to find a way for residents at The Asbury to interact and communicate. We can use this as a bulletin board for notices for sale, or keep abreast of what's happening in the building. Not sure how this is going to work out, but I'll give it a shot.
